KINGS OF PONTOS. Mithradates VI Eupator, circa 120-63 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 33 mm, 16.82 g, 12 h), Pergamon, BE 212, 12th month = September 85. Diademed head of Mithradates VI to right. Rev. BAΣIΛEΩΣ - MIΘPAΔATOY / EYΠATOPOΣ Stag grazing left; to left, star-in-crescent (Pontic royal badge) above monogram; to right, BIΣ (year) above monogram; in exergue, IB (month); all within Dionysiac wreath of ivy and fruit. Callataÿ p. 16 and pl. VII. HGC 7, 340. RG p. 18, 16. SNG Paris 809. A fresh and attractive example with a sharply struck reverse. Struck from a slightly worn obverse die, otherwise, good extremely fine.
